Checklist of the Plants of the higher Sierra San Pedro Martír The isolated Sierra San Pedro Mártir (SSPM) is known for its scenic beauty, high peaks and temperate climate, surrounded by desert and scrub vegetation. In a recent floristic study, six areas in the state of Baja California were compared and the SSPM had the most diverse flora and the lowest number of non-native species. In the greater SSPM, 64 taxa are endemic to the state of Baja California. This vascular plant list enumerates the 500 taxa known from above 1,800 meters (5,900 ft.) in the SSPM. Of these plants, 27 are endemic to SSPM, and a some of them are quite rare. It is this unique assemblage of plants that makes the SSPM such a draw for botanists and plant lovers alike.
